Yes, it does seem to be a Kubuntu/KDE issue. Ubuntu 24 with Gnome works
fine.
We installed ibus on Kubuntu/KDE and discovered that ibus resolves the
issue. In the past we've had problems with ibus periodically disabling
the keyboard for Java programs, so we'll monitor for that issue to see
