With the nose fix, git-buildpackage no longer fails to build from
source. But you are right that any ubuntu change we make (which adds an
ubuntuN suffix) will break the build in the version check.

And... That's not enough I think. I'm sorry, I'm not really familiar
with what's happening there. Despite `gnome-terminal` starting
correctly, `--class` is still ignored, possibly on purpose as per the
`swallow this arguments` comment in `__init__`. So this is intentional.

I successfully got 0ad to build on Debian testing and Ubuntu 24.04, by
backporting a handful of upstream patches, and painstakingly crafting
another patch to work around the numerous incompatibilities of the
antiquated vendored copy of spidermonkey with Python 3.12.
The Debian merge request is the

Ok, I think I've fixed it. Please bear with me if the fix is not perfect
/ there's something wrong with it that I've missed, I'm no Python
developer nor I've ever developed for GNOME projects.
