Hi Max, I have back ported the change and did some very basic testing on
it. I haven't hit any issues with it.
I will build it in a PPA and provide you with instructions on how to
install the kernel if you would like to test it.

Cannot detect audio sinks and sourc

If a configuration file in /usr/share/pam-configs has CRLF-style line
endings, pam-auth-update will silently fail with no errors.
I won't suggest that the config should allow CRLF line endings. But if a
file does have alternate line endings, the script should present an
error
I wonder if this issue could cause an invalid pam configuration to be
generated? In my example, pwquality is a "requisite". But if this
affected a module marked [success=end], seems that it might mess up the
jump offset counts.

This issue also affects my Thinkpad E14 Gen 2 since the release of Kubuntu
24.04. Actually, in my case it rarely works as it should, while most of the
time it doesn't. After years of using the trackpad, I was forced to switch back
to a mouse due to the persistent issues.

Ubuntu Core has a read-only /etc, but a writable partition in
/etc/writable. In some versions of Ubuntu, the systemd package ships a
patch to follow symlinks from /etc/ -> /etc/writable, e.g. for files
like /etc/locale.conf.
