On upgrade to Lucid, grub2 was NOT installed for me; not sure if it
should have been.
Therefore, I am still experiencing this bug in Lucid. I resolved it by
backing up my menu.lst (renaming it to menu.lst.backup), and then
running update-grub. New menu.lst had correct entries. (If you copy
Gregory - as per my above comment, I no longer have Pulseaudio
installed, so cannot report on whether the output plugin causes me any
problems. In any case, I could not FIND the Pulseaudio output plugin to
install, as the page you linked to back in January appears to have
changed since then.

I am not convinced that this is a window manager issue. gksudo and other
programs that ask for passwords do not behave in the same manner as
gnome-keyring, and I have encountered no remotely similar problems to
this in fluxbox. I have around 200 GUI programs installed that are used
regularly, and
I tried to follow Gregory Petrosyan's advice, but couldn't find the
Pulseaudio output plugin. I installed the latest version of unofficial
cmus, but was still left without a volume control.
Eventually, I got the cmus volume control back by removing Pulseaudio as per
nullrend's instructions here:

I do NOT have Pulseaudio installed, and get the same error. I use
Fluxbox with Ubuntu Studio and a Soundblaster Audigy. I do not believe
that this bug is a duplicate of bug #178895, as this is not relating
