I experience this issue since kernel version 3.19.0-18-generic with
previous kernel versions sound output via HDMI/DP worked like a charm.
Please take a look at the attached dmesg output maybe they are the cause

I just revert back to Linuxmint 16 kernel on linuxmint 17 and everything
working again as expected.
Actually not Linuxmint 16 original kernel. Just downloaded latest saucy
kernel from mainline/v3.11.10.11-saucy and installed to my Linuxmint 17
system.
Note: I also tested mainline/v3.15-utopic

After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.04 from 13.10, Duplicity cannot backup
files. The location it will backup and the location to backup have both
Russian characters in path. I believe this is the reason of the problem.
After failure, duplicity shows this log:
I too can confirm that everything is resolved including lid close, ac
