Lance Rushing, you're my hero!

Can confirm this was a problem for me and following his steps fixed it.
It appears that if any partitions exist on the disk at all this issues
will come up (I happened to have had an msdos partition, which differs
from the existing ext4 described by Lance).

I had a machine that was frozen by this for over 24 hours, and after I
got sick of waiting it went through a few reboots before I luckly
stumbled on this.

FYI this was installing 15.04
