Update: My sincerest apologies.
It turns out the good old "restart the affected machine "still works...
I just gave the old gal a power cycle (switched off mains power from
rear power switch), and she is scanning fine.

My Hardware:
Machine: HP Elitebook Folio 9470m (connected to printer via USB-A 3.0, on left
side of laptop).
Ubuntu version: 24.04.2 LTS
USB output: Bus
