The referenced issue is *not* a graphics problem, it is a problem with
libsdl-alsa not working nicely with pulseaudio's alsa emulation layer
and can be worked around by installing libsdl-pulseaudio.
However, that is *not* what this bug is about, this bug is about
providing a reasonable workaround

Strange, there was someone who had wesnoth installed without libjpeg and
thus, couldn't see jpegs ingame.
On my system, this is libsdl-image1.2's dependency list
Depends: libc6 (>= 2.6-1), libpng12-0 (>= 1.2.13-4), libsdl1.2debian (> 1.2.4),
zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-1)

I'm also experiencing this bug, but it does not seem to be limited to gtk
programs, Konsole is also affected.
I am unable to give you steps to reproduce the bug, though it keeps happening.
The bug occurs under both KDE and XFCE.
SCIM/SKIM seems to be involved, as killing it after this bug occurre
this might come a bit late, but:
run compaudit, then make sure the directories it lists aren't group- or
world-writeable

Same thing after upgrade from edgy to feisty: switch user buttons
disappeared everywhere and the log out menu only contains a single
button: log out, which crashes the whole machine (doesn't even respond
to ping)
