I am experiencing this issue in Intrepid.
I have an external hard drive (WD) that is hooked up by a USB cable. Small
files transfer fine, and the HD works flawlessly in vista. However, using
Ubuntu, During large file transfers, the system randomly locks up.
At the start of the transfer the
I did some digging and it seems that the bug is really the lack of lsm
stacker. Apparmor is useful. So is realtime module. They both register
as lsm modules but basic kernel does support only one lsm module at a
time. And neither of apparmor or realtime supports stacking.
Any suggestions?

thus bug report.
Anyway, this seems to happen also with generic kernel. And in my case,
the RT kernel is in amd64 platform.
Problem may also be in the underlaying commoncap module.
