upgraded to 2.6.28-12-generic. Nvidia Geforce 9600 GS all versions of for
this card were used no problems reported for this problem seems to have gone
away. excessive testing was done for a conflict between nvidia and wifi
drivers I've been having.

alright in recent trials I'm beginning to believe that this is a
hardware conflict probably the intel hd audio card it seems like we all
have the same audio card. removing the splash comment in grub fixes the
issue.

I tried a bunch of different configurations. still using iwlwifi.5000
can't remember the rest of it at the moment I'm doing some cadd work so I'm
in windows atm. its the 5000 chip set series loader for iwlagn.
at any rate I installed ubuntu 8.10 32bit with great success many fewer
issues.
I think that this is a version issue with iwglan

Okay, there are a couple of issues at work here and the following bug

I didn't install 8.04 originally because kernel 2.6.24 does not support the
intel 5100/5300 wireless chipsets.
I have something that may be related. I don't remember having boot
issues prior to enabling the nvidia 177 driver but I frequently have
them now where iwlagn appears to cause a kernel panic and boot freezes
and caps lock blinks.
have you had any problems like that? let me know if you want more
this isn't just a noise error the nvidia driver specifically 177
interferes with the iwlagn and causes boot to freeze. causes bootstrap
error code -10 or complete failure. also causes X to fail as well.
this was tested on an Asusm70vm-C1 dual boot with vista home premium.

as it turns out I have a conflict issue between iwlagn and nvidia 177
proprietary driver. which is causing my problem. I've disabled the
driver and now the problem has gone away, still looking for a work
around.

I have had this problem ever since a fresh install of 8.10 I'm using an
asus m70vm-c1 with dual hard drives vista on first hardrive ubuntu on
the second. every third or fourth boot it fails completely and the caps
lock indicator blinks, the logs show continues failed initilization of
iwglan
yeah, I'll give it a try tommorow or friday, works pretty slow as of late so
I've got a bit of free time.
