I found out the reason of my problem. It is actually gstreamer related.
I had built/installed gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.26-1 from Debian,
while I had gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.20-1ubuntu1 from Ubuntu
(which removed valve plugin as it got moved to -good).
So, I solved my problem by
Please run:
gst-inspect-0.10 valve
If you get this error: No such element or plugin 'valve'
Then please run: apt-cache policy gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
That would give you an idea about what is wrong.

Main window.
On the left, it shows the prayer times for the current day.
On the right there is the Prayer calendar button, which brings a window showing
a calendar, and the prayer times for the selected day on the calendar.
Also there is the Preferences button, which brings a window to configure
When the mouse is over the icon, there is a tooltip that gets displayed.
The tooltip actually shows the prayer times for the current day, and how
much time is left for the next prayer.

When the applet icon is right-clicked, it brings a context menu. One can
enable/disable prayer time notifications and call for prayer (athan).
Also it is possible to stop the currently running prayer call (Stop
Athan menu item)
