I dont think this started happening after an update/upgrade. It was
there in Ubuntu 3.16.0-33.44-generic (3.16.7-ckt7) as well. This is a
new laptop I got less than a month back, as far as I can tell its always
been there.

Display freezes once or twice a day (have seen it mostly when using
chrome), mouse can be moved but not able click on anything. Further when
the issue occurs not able to switch to terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F1). Issue
started occurring only after a Ubuntu update (Kernel 3.2.0-39+)
This bug has re-appeared recently. Running Ubuntu 12.04.

Thanks for finding this Timo. I have 2 display cards on the laptop. I
have switchable setting in the BIOS disabled and have selected the Intel
graphics card under video. However to use the DVI port on the laptop I
need to use the ATI graphics card. So I reboot my laptop and select
video as ATI in B
