Not sure where the -u comes from now (looking at : man mkinitramfs),
but the mkinitramfs should recreate the initrd's (used from the

I got an update regarding this bug being modified and, although I don't
care about it any more really, I must comment.
The bug is about a *crash* when starting a program from a terminal as
user root. Since when does the existence of a workaround make a bug
invalid?
I assume you mean won't fix -
I've been banging my head on this for over a day, pretty sick of the
reboot/test cycle. Nothing seemed to work - and then I was pointed at
this bug on IRC in #ubuntu-server.
I think it is essential that a KVM host attempts a clean shutdown of any
guests on host reboot. It was quite disconcerting

Well, I had to fix this for myself today because I did an update and
some linux-image stuff was removed (no longer used) and I couldn't
boot any kernel afterwards. Previously, only the 2.6.32-23 kernel gave
me the error and the 2.6.32-22 kernel was OK. I set GRUB to default to

OK. Luckily, I have recently (last weekend) reverted to 8.10 from 9.04.
Things did not work out ...
So - I have dbus-x11 version (already present) :

Up to date 8.10 intrepid.
Open a terminal

CRASH
I am not sure if this should be a new bug or not. But I have a related
problem :
Pressing the check button in Update Manager starts a /new/ instance of
gnome-power-manager - even though one is already running (and visible in
panel system tray).
Details :
Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid (up to date)
I have also seen the same error today.
I wonder if it is related?

Note - I initially thought this might be related to using dash as the

OK - thanks. I was just looking at Ubuntu packages and updating from the Ubuntu
repo. No harm done and a useful exercise for me perhaps.
What shall I do with this - set to Invalid or is that for you? I am not sure
about the procedure - or how to request a sync with Debian.
Thanks.

Well, thanks to watching Daniel Holbach's Youtube how to patch video,
I have made a debdiff patch file of what I think is the fix here.
Basically, udev_124-1 removed /sbin/udevtrigger used by nut's postinst
script. We need to use /sbin/udevadm trigger now.

Thanks Lee.
Those updates have fixed it for me as well. Having only installed the beta
yesterday, it was very disappointing to see the NM breakage.
I hope there's no further disruption (or deeper problem).
Now I can continue testing ...
