This bug still affects Jaunty on my machine, though I haven't been able
to capture a KP.
I have the same IDE controller (and what looks like the same
motherboard).

I think I should re-open this bug. I did a clean install the other day
and upgraded to KDE 3.5.9, and it was crashing. After installing the
update from http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3041 I no longer had a
problem (except it brought KDElibs down to 3.5.8). After upgrading back
to kdelibs 3.5.9,
