The fact that i'm using etckeeper makes things even worse: changes in
/etc remain untracked unless i explicitly commit those changes after
each guest session, which is obviously a PITA.

I just upgraded my MacMini from jaunty to karmic and it does not show
the error anymore. No modeset change needed. Would you like me to
upgrade to lucid? I'm planning a full reinstall sometime soon, but I can
wait if further testing is needed.
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
The last command in "/etc/etckeeper/post-install.d/50vcs-commit" does:
etckeeper commit "$(printf "$message")"
and $message is a very large string, larger than the shell permits.
Either the commit message is shortened or etckeeper is modified to use
an option to specify a log file.

@Martin just tried the proposed karmic package and it works fine. I've
been able to create a new trac instance with a git repo and both the
trac-admin and the trac web interface worked as expected.
Thanks!

@Peter please, see
spamassassin-3.2.5/debian/patches/95_fix_FH_DATE_PAST_20XX.dpatch. The
file you're reading is the one coming from upstream.
OTOH, remember that you can update SA rules with sa-update command.

Unless 2.2.7 fixes a big issue it is quite unlikely that lucid will ship
it, since we're approaching to beta release and new features must be
approved explicitly (feature freeze was almost 1 month ago). However,
you can nominate this bug for release on the links above.
Anyway, it would be nice if
Lucid has 2.2.6 already.

being "karmic"):
