Unfortunately original problem is still present after removal of light-
locker.

Title:
Screen goes black randomly after upgrade from Xubuntu 18.
Hey Sean,
Thanks for you concern!
1. Yes, I had. Removed light-locker today. Since the problem happens
only a few times a day it might take a while until I notice if there's a
change.

Public bug reported:
Since I upgraded to 20.04.2 LTS I've had a problem (about once a day)
with my screen going black. The computer is not unresponsive, but the
only way to wake the screen up is to close and open the laptop lid.
External screen is not affected.
I'm on a HP Elitebook 820 notebook.
There also appears to be no ALTERNATIVE to trickle, for programs that do
not natively support rate-limiting. "wondershaper" is close but limits
everything over a specific network interface.

Confirmed for me as well. It seems like trickle is deprecated and does
not work / cannot work on modern systems. I would love to be proven
wrong, however!

@bond17_007: my laptop does adjust the brightness when booted with

the login screen...

Kamal,
Has your fix (suspend AND brightness) made it into 2.6.32-24.41 kernel?

Just tested this on Karmic RC -- behavior is still the same:
-- on fresh boot, closing the lid does nothing (just turns the display
backlight off);
-- suspending works correctly when triggered from the menu, or by pressing the
hotkey;
-- after suspending has been triggered once, closing the lid
I'd like to add my experiences also, with Karmic on an HP laptop dv4000

On fresh boot, "Close Lid" doesn't do anything, lid state reported as
"open" (even when it's closed). Suspending manually (via menu, or

Hey Chuck,
I'm getting stuck here...
Nothing happens even when I do the dry run. Nothing is printed and nothing
seems to be getting done. My cpu use stays at 2% and doesn't spike as if
anything is getting done. I used the --verbose as I didn't think anything was
getting done. Any ideas?
