I have kubuntu 8.10 installed on my pen drive.
1. Login to kubuntu 8.10.
2. Open gmail or any site in firefox.
3. Use keyboard to scroll and read articles etc.

If no then there is no firewall issue.
Also I have installed kubuntu 710 just few days ago without fiddling
with anything.

support would end in dec 07.
Hence if possible, pl fix this issue on 606 LTS.

FF was made the default browser when it was launched. (FF asked whether it
should be made the default one).
I dont know abt the kcontrol thing.
FF should make changes in kcontrol. I, an end user, dont know/care abt kcontrol.
Also... this bug is reproducible in 6.06 LTS.

I am not IT savy and dont know much about debug and install.
Can you pl tell whether the bug is reproducible?
Ver easy steps... Just download the movie file, add some note and try to
run it in totem. If it crashes, then no need for me to provide u with
debug and such things.
