I have installed a Kubuntu 8.10 and I haven't been able to duplicate

I can confirm this on Hardy too on my Dell D430 with a Sandisk SSD UATA
5000.
Hdparm -i shows udma2 mode while debian uses udma5 - and read speeds are
the twice.
