Public bug reported:
Connecting to a modern installation of Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri using
the Wayland display server (and PipeWire / gnome-remote-desktop) does
not work from the current LTS release 20.04 Focal Fossa. It aborts
immediately after authentication.

I can confirm that the just released version 1:5.4.5-0ubuntu0.17.10.4
fixes the problem for me. No more issue opening files from within a
/srv hierarchy.

Hello Dimitri and thank you for taking up this issue. Does the milestone
ubuntu-17.04 mean that there will not be an SRU for this one-line patch?

My first attempt to fix this involved trying to move gpg-agent invocation from
upstart to systemd --user. I got that to work by creating:
~/.config/upstart/gpg-agent.override (manual)
~/.config/systemd/user/default.target.wants/gpg-agent.service ->
/usr/lib/systemd/user/gpg-agent.service

After upgrading from xenial to yakkety, I noticed that my SSH_AUTH_SOCK
environment variable pointed to $GNUPGHOME/S.gpg-agent.ssh, which is no
longer the correct location with the current gnupg 2.1 package.
After much investigation, it appears that the variable is set by ups
Version 2.0.5 of snapd in -proposed has a fix for this script. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575014 for details and even more
problems seemingly unrelated to snapd, but caused by its broken
$XDG_DATA_DIRS handling.
It's actually perfectly fine to not have the variable set at all if only

@oliver I have to strongly agree with James here. No package's scripts
should implicitly depend on the functionality of another, but rather
each script should honor the standard independently. The complexity and
runtime overhead for the check does not matter in this case.
Not having $XDG_DATA_DIRS
I think adding the standard paths in case $XDG_DATA_DIRS was not set
before is mandatory. It's also how the other Xsession scriptlets work.
Consider a user who does not care about the paths (like me). Quoting
from the XDG Base Directory Specification [1]: "If $XDG_DATA_DIRS is

Improved patch that respects the XDG default fallback paths when
initially setting XDG_DATA_DIRS.
Rebased against current version 2.0.3.
** Patch added: "Avoid overwriting XDG_DATA_DIRS and respect defaults."

I was also bitten by this bug, causing the GNOME session to fail
completely on login. gnome-settings-daemon did not find any GSettings
schemas installed, therefore aborting the session via TRAP signal. After
much investigation, the snapd package seems to be the root cause,
because the /etc/X11/Xses

Thank you and sorry I didn't reply right away. To quickly clear up the
situation:
I did manage to install the upgrade, it was just a matter of setting the
permissions right.
/var/cache/apt/archives/ as well as /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/ did exist
but the former had permissions 0700.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
When trying to upgrade to Natty (11.04), pressing the "Upgrade" button
in the release notes dialog silently aborts the upgrade and returns to
