Discovered something rather interesting/confusing...
First I did a rebuild of php5, modifying libapache2-mod-php5.postinst to
make it abort (exit 1) just before it had time to run its invoke-rc.d
apache2 force-reload.
Turned out that after installation the new packages, and having

Making autoconf2.13 an explicit build dependency (instead of merely
autoconf) does make php5 build nicely. I generated new source packages
with this change, and built it without any trouble inside a pbuilder
chroot.
Yes, I guess being explicit about dist-packages is a safe choice.
Especially since that seems to be what Python 3 will continue using.

I can confirm this problem in Karmic and ufw 0.27.1-2.
Perhaps having application profiles in use being copied to a special
cache directory might be a solution.

Providing a debdiff, in case we want to tackle this issue in Karmic. It
contains a modified apache2.conf which defines the log formats
vhost_combined, combined and common using %O instead of %b.

release of Ubuntu may contain packages based on the same upstream
version, but with different patches applied. A command giving good

File-roller seems to use %20 to express the space charter, which doesn't
seem to be a syntax tar uses.
