I see where the problem lies. When the installer was going through the
partitioning step, the hard disk where root will be mounted was detected
at "/dev/sdd", not "/dev/sda", thus the kboot.conf file that is
installed has root as "root=/dev/sdd1" instead of "root=/dev/sda1".
A quick fix to this wa
I did a fresh install of Kubuntu Feisty and found that there were only
three packages not installed by default that needed to be installed in
order to get DVDs to play. Since Kubuntu mainly uses xine based media
players, this should relate to this bug.

There's still a problem even after doing a fresh install of Ubuntu with
the alternate CD builds of 20070418. For now I have to manually type
mnt/root/boot/vmlinux initrd=mnt/root/boot/initrd.img root=/dev/sda1 to
get Ubuntu to boot correctly.

It seems that this is just a matter of installing the right packages.
libdvdread and libdvdcss will always be needed. I installed libdvdnav as

Nevermind, found another computer this affected. The previous computer
was a Gateway GT5404 desktop through its integrated graphics card. It's
also affecting a Gateway GM5416E desktop. Going to post xorg.conf and
Xorg.0.log.
