I think it happened on other packages as well. I'll check when I'm home
tonight.
It's difficult to debug because it crashes in the chroot and I don't know
where the logs are (help here).
Also, hangs is a better word than crashes since it just sits there without
doing anything.

I have a recent Jaunty alpha and am experiencing something similar. The
main (only) user on my system is no longer part of groups required for
normal desktop operation (audio, fuse, video, etc).

Again, I think this is something to do with your configuration settings
rather than the lirc package itself.
This bug is trying to address the lack of transmission support in the
current lirc package.

Very repeatable: Install packages for lirc on fresh install of gutsy,
create config files, no output. Remove packages, download SVN, compile,
reuse same config files (and same kernel, etc) and success.
