This bug seems to have the same symptoms as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1722353
i.e. the session crashes when an HDMI or DP connected monitor is turned back on.

I am having this issue despite having auto off feature disabled. The issue
doesnt start until my monitor is turned back on; I put my /var/log/syslog
entries here:
