Interesting. Thanks for the heads up, bacchus. I'm not on 20.04 yet,
but plan to upgrade soon. If I get the same symptoms as you, I'll
probably try recompiling Unison from source. (I hear it's in OCaml, and
that the specific compiler version can matter.)

So this whole bug is clearly just a packaging problem! The old compiled
binaries still run on newer Ubuntu machines, so the easiest step to fix
this bug is to simply add those old binaries to the unison-all and
unison-all-gtk packages, which currently are empty and useless.
It would be nice to
For me on Ubuntu 19.10, the best workaround seems to be to copy its
newer unison-2.48.4 to my old Ubuntu 14.04 machine (and put it into
/usr/local/bin/). Then on my 19.10 machine, I simply add this line to
the *.prf config file I'm using:
servercmd = unison-2.48.4
Alternatively, the ancient
Still the same problem in Ubuntu 19.10! And from the comment above,
20.04 as well. What is the best workaround for this?

I am on Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, using VNC to connect to a Windows 7 machine.
I confirm that this shift-click bug still exists with the
xtightvncviewer (1.3.9-6.4ubuntu1) and xvnc4viewer
(4.1.1+xorg4.3.0-37ubuntu5.0.2) VNC clients. However, gvncviewer
(version 0.5.3-0ubuntu2) does NOT have the bug, it
This bug still has NOT been fixed in Ubuntu 12.04.3. Why not? It is a
very simply fix!
The original (bad) contents of /usr/lib/sqlite/pkgIndex.tcl are:
package ifneeded sqlite 0.0. [list load [file join $dir
libtclsqlite.so.0] sqlite]
Simply changing the 0.0. string to 2 fixes the problem.

Thanks for responding! Yes, this bug is still an issue.
I will try the latest Ubuntu development release and upstream kernels as
you suggest, but I won't be able to spend time on this until about 3
weeks from now.
The problem kernels are not stable enough to run apport-collect or
anything else
I just upgraded the machine (canth) to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid). The new
kernel, 2.6.32-19.28, causes the machine to immediately reboot. It will
sit there continually rebooting in an infinite cycle. So far the old
2.6.28-15.52 kernel appears to still be stable, although with much
degraded
I just tried the newer Ubuntu 2.6.31-15.50 kernel. It also is broken on
this machine, but it's behavior is somewhat different. Instead of
locking up, it reboots the machine every time, before I even have a
chance to log in. Sometimes it makes it as far as playing the login
screen music before
