IIUC, it was fixed by adding the environment variable workaround to the
.desktop file.
If you start Skype from the dash/menu all should be well. If you start
it from the command line then you're on your own

I've been using "xfce4-panel". You can have it float, or dock it to the
side of the screen. It also does other stuff (task switcher, etc), but I
just removed all that and put the indicator area widget on it.
As long as you start it after Unity it works fine. (The last one to
start takes control of
I came here to report the nested snapshot problem also.
It means the affected snapshots must be deleted manually.

I see the same problem. I'm running 3.8.16-0ubuntu1~natty1. If I adjust
my layout such that the smaller screen is at the top edge, rather than
the bottom, then I see the icons fine.

I can reproduce the failure under a Natty chroot.
The missing symbol, "__exidx_end", is defined by the linker script (see
/usr/lib/ldscripts/armelf_linux_eabi.x), so I can't see why it isn't
defined, but that's just a symptom of the real problem.
For whatever reason, this package is setup to link
This new problem is PR46667. There's a patch linked from there that
fixes the problem.
I'm not sure why it hasn't been applied yet.
