the solution by mp wrote on 2009-06-17 worked for me - thanks for the
simpleton solution at the end of the day I just want to use Ubuntu :)

I have only just started to get this error after upgrading to Gutsy:

I have the same problem on an HP nc6230 with an ATI MOBILITY RADEON X300
when trying to run Windows applications through Wine.
My output from glxinfo is:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/.wine/drive_c/Demo_disk$ glxinfo
name of display: :0.0
Unknown device ID 5460, please report. Assuming plain R300.
