Oh tried the commend in a terminal but was told I need Super User
privileges. As I'm the only one using this this account I thought my
user password would do, it didn't

I forgot to mention that I tried the manual fix suggested but was told I
needed Super User access. As the ownly user of this terminal I thought
that me password would suffice, I was wrog

Here is what I get when I tried the $ xev | grep button command:
Left button - state 0x10, button 1 same_screen YES
state 0x100, button 1 same_screen YES
Right button - state 0x10, button 3 same_screen YES
state 0x410, button 3 same_screen YES

It's a Microsoft Trackball. It has the normal left right buttons but also has
a page forward page back button. The page buttons work ok in Firefox in
windows but do not work in Firefox in Ubuntu. The trackball wheel work fine
in Ubuntu.
