Would you need any more information on this? I forgot to mention- this is not
only a problem with my application Labview, but also with Google Chrome which
is directly installed from Google's repos using Synaptic/apt-get.

Yes, the entries are listed in /usr/share/applications, but don't appear
in the main menu. I'm not sure if they ever did run /usr/share/gnome-
menus/update-gnome-menus-cache in Karmic, but its working there without
any problems.
I copied the missing entries to ~/.local/share/applications and they

observation- this seems to be a problem in other distros too. I've sen
this problem with Mandriva 2010.0 and Opensuse 11.2. Opensuse 11.2 does
not use KMS, but initializes the framebuffer and uses splashy to provide
the graphical boot. M
