and the gnu java was used instead the sun Java.

gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.2.1 (Ubuntu 4.2.1-5ubuntu5)
you have to use jdk5 or 6 the use eclipse.
I had some problems with Eclipse and GNU java on Gusty. Try to use Sun java

I had the same problem, under Feisty I had compiled Pidgin and after the
upgrade to Gusty I had only the MySpace protocol.
Because pidgin looks plugins in the directory: /usr/lib/pidgin/ but there are
installed in: /usr/lib/purple.
I fixed the problem by sudo cp /usr/lib/purple/*
