Hello, new person here. This bug is affecting me too, on both an upgrade and clean install of 10.04.1. I also have to deactivate all desktop effects (they are usually set to normal) so the machine is usable, but once I've done that, it is stable. Had the coloured bars/distortion before log-in screen with the upgrade but haven't seen it so far on this clean install.
