I unchecked Subtitles Use SSA/ASS library and now it is able to open.
A quickfix until the problem is solved, and a hint to the ones who will repair
it, or at leasts I hope so.

I'm having the same problem when using smplayer, too. It started just a
few days ago.
But it works fine when I open mplayer2 via terminal. I'm unaware of the
