Though, I use zoom not as frequent, maybe once or twice a day, disable
Zoom is not comfortable for me, too.
I found that there is a short cut for enable/disable zoom. Along with
other short cuts, they are:
Super + Alt + 8 = Toggle zoom
Super + Alt + = = Zoom in
Super + Alt + - = Zoom out
This bug is resurfaced in 13.10.

I can also confirm that this bug still exists. It occurs about 20 - 30%
of time I start jEdit. It also effect multiple line edit in dialog box.
Its height is reduced from 3 lines to about 0.8 line.
