On my HP 8710W, before the latest round of updates, the fn+f9, fn+f10,
and fn+f11 would control brightness up, brightness down, and ambient
light sensor toggle, respectively. Now, according to evtest, all three
are mapped to KEY_FN_ESC (fn+esc).

Echoing Doctor Rover here - I can change to A2DP in Trusty, but the
profile doesn't actually switch. If you close the sound control panel
and open it back up, it remains on Telephony Duplex.
#15 seems to be working so far.

This is also affecting me on a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04, on two
separate machines - my HP Compaq 8710W (64-bit + NVIDIA) and my IBM
ThinkPad T43 (32-bit).

I agree with most of Ubuntu's decisions, but putting my ThinkPad T42
(1.7 GHz PM, 400 MHz FSB, Radeon 9600) out in the cold while my T43
(1.73 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, Intel GMA 900) remains supported is about the
most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. The
Tried it, no effect whatsoever. If it helps, the reflection/glare on the
Unity dash pane seems to be distorted/cut off in places and flickers
occasionally. I've moved to 13.04 dev, where the problem still exists. I
notice 12.04 did not have this reflection/glare...
