I've just updated my MacBookAir5,1 to ubuntu 16.10 and can confirm this
bug still occurs. If I close the lid I'm forced to do a hard reboot to
regain access.

Running 3.13 my macbook air lightning mini dp to vga adapter is not
recognized which has it been previously. The mini dp to HDMI is
recognised however.
With VGA adapter connected to macbook air

I'm running Mint using libsane-common 1.0.23-0ubuntu1 and can confirm
it can not find my HP Scanjet 8200 also.
