Interesting. This is an ancient bug that probably has a really quick fix or
was already solved. This is actually so old that I have replaced my sound
card with a much better one with awesome drivers. It is possible this was a
duplicate but at the time of filing, I searched and nothing came up.

My initial prognosis of not working on UEFI is incorrect. I think it is
the upgrade to 13.10 or 13.04. My laptop sometimes has this same problem
and UEFI is not enabled on it. This is a very bad intermittent bug. My
computer cannot start up. I honestly do not understand why it has been

I reboot my computer and it seems like the sound setting is not being
saved between reboots. It always is 100%. The slider position is
remembered correctly but the volume level is 100% every startup. Once I
click on the volume, it adjusts correctly.

setting is saved with the onboard audio as it is terrible and I don't

disabled on 13.04.

months which was terribly disappointing and very dangerous for me. I

Adding to the fray. This worked perfectly for me in 11.12 and broke in
12.04 apparently with the upgrade. I am creating a new folder and
changing backup location. This bug should be considered critical mostly
because users (such as myself) do pay for this service and the nature of

Binary package hint: xorg
I assume this is an xorg problem because when I boot up sometimes it is
starting xserver and then I get a black screen with a _ in the upper
right hand corner. The error in the log is:
