There's no BIOS setting for a serial bus controller. I doubt that this is
related to a BIOS Setting at all since the touchpad is recognised if I boot
windows instead ubuntu.

beegfs-meta went into high CPU lock-up again today, at 6:27:07 am, even
with daily updates disabled. So apt-daily-upgrade is not directly
related to the hangs.
It turns out though that there is other stuff scheduled around that time
by daily cron:

I have this bug on 18.04 with alt+left.
After executing the dumpkeys/loadkeys workaround, then alt+left stops
doing strange things but now, alt+F4 drops me to console 4 which is even
worse.

I have exactly this issue with the ushare package on Ubuntu 18.04 (well
Mint 19 actually, which is based on 18.04).
The reason is the package installs /etc/init.d/ushare, and that file
contains:

As the problem involves a bug report and an enhancement proposal as
well, I split the report in two parts.
