should have 2 dashes before dvd-compat. That is probably the invalid argument
error.

Sorry, it turns out to be a bug with /usr/share/python/debian_defaults. To get
around another problem I had added
, python3.0, python3.1
to supported-versions where it should have been in unsupported-versions. I've
moved it now and everything seems OK. Could somebody please close this.

Grub finds and builds a menu entry for Windows 7 RC, but Windows 7 fails to
boot. It says Windows Starting and then reboots.

If I change from 1152 to 1048 and then revert I am left with a gap about an
inch wide down the right hand side of the screen.
Underneath that gap I have an image of the old screen.
I notice that when I go from 1152 to 1048 the normal way (ie keep settings),

Yep, I am an idiot.
I just bought a $9 copy of an old Windows game (Crimson Skies) and tried to
run it under Wine. Installed OK, but when I tried to run it I ended up with my
screen hung in about 640x480 and 24 point font.
I killed the Wine session and used preferences,
I've just reinstalled the new version of xsane and it is working fine.
