I had already reverted to 3.13...
... so I tried again. I just did:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
... then got the 3.14 kernel again. I'm now able to suspend and resume
without a kernel oops.
I'm not sure where this leaves the bug, but it
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
3.14.0-031400rc6-generic
Upon closing lid, system backlight went off then back on. Upon opening
the lid, the user interface was non-responsive. Hard reboot required.
