Well, actually I have used kde for the last year.. So I couldn't tell you about
this bug right now. However, there is an answer to your mail from another
person that confirms the persistence of the bug on Hardy.

The folder view applet doesn't show nothing but coloured points (that I think
represent the folders and files).
I put the applet and reboot, or log in again, and the problem persists.
I had installed betas and rc first, so I deleted, as from bugs.kde suggested,
the plasma-
I solved it! I deleted the .kde4 folder, and then everything worked just fine.
So, since Christian solved the problem too, I suppose we should change the
status of this bug.. Thank you all.

My video driver is the NVIDIA's official, 96.43.05 (compiled by the installer
downloaded from the NVIDIA site).

the problem got solved when I could start "ooffice -draw" and change the
openoffice icon set to "automatic" from "crystal". it appears to be a
problem with that icon set that does affect all openoffice programs but
openoffice draw.

I confirm the bug with OO3. The text from the menus is gone.
It's all right with qt3 though.
I have a Geforce4 MX440 card with the nvidia-glx96 package installed, on
Intrepid (upgraded from hardy).
I will see what happens with the solution daveh proposed.
