Did you attempt to update the distro before installing Unity8? Maybe it doesn't matter, but I would try sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to upgrade to beta 2 (or download here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/), then go back and try to install Unity8 per the OMG Ubuntu directions...
