be a third-party app to set the background to whatever someone wanted,
but that was--AFAIK--discontinued when it was reported unity-greeter
would obey backgrounds. Any ideas when this bug will be resolved;

I'm toying with Gnome Shell and just can't seem to get things quite

I'm not entirely sure this is relevant, but my problem seems relative.
I'm running UNR 10.04 on an Asus EeePC-1005HA after a completely fresh
install. When I try to use gconf-editor to exclude my terminal, I get a
key not writable error. When I maneuver my way to ~/.gconf/apps, there
is no maximus
