Hello,
This turned out to be a bug with Xen directly. The problem happens when
you have a PCI express graphics card in the system. Even if you're not
passing the graphics card with VT-d, it still hangs the system. Removing
it and using the integrated graphics, things work fine. I've e-mailed on
So, I've upgraded another box from Gutsy to Hardy, and don't see this
problem. However that box did not have Xen installed prior. On the box I
am having the problem, I did have Xen installed. However, all stock
Gutsy stuff prior to the upgrade. Perhaps more regression testing is
needed?

It appears that VT-d is not enabled by default in Hardy. I found a nice
page that describes how to set things up. I went ahead and enabled it,
however during boot shortly after seeing that VT-d was enabled, it would

As a tip...I believe this is caused by the integrated Intel video card.
I had the same problem, and installed a nvidia card, and had no
problems. Now I just have to wait for this other bug to be fixed:

Same problem. Why hasn't this been fixed? I can't find any convirt
ubuntu packages either. Right now the package servers are being
hammered, but I think the ubuntu-xen-desktop package is broken
regardless.

This is the same as bug # 146924, however that bug doesn't fully
describe the issue. I'm seeing this as well, and the machine will
randomly hang, even when a DomU is not running. This is a showstopper
bug. Any suggestions with anyone here? I can't downgrade xen-utils with
the stock repositories...
