Perhaps it is the case that the migration assistant code
does not cover the case where it finds an existing linux
partition whose /home is only a mount point?
I would imagine that in such a case (an empty /home) it
should look in /etc/fstab to see if a /home entry is there,
then mount the correspo

I downloaded the 20090306 "jaunty daily image"
(with ubiquity's 1.11.15 version), burned it to a
CD-RW, booted into Ubuntu's "live" session, and
then said "ubiquity --debug" in a Terminal.
The first thing I want to report (let me know if
this should be filed as a separate bug report) is
that when
I will be happy to try it again, as you asked.
But I erased that CD-RW disk and also the
"daily" image I had burned onto it. Sigh.
So I went to download the current "daily"
image and discovered it is too big to fit on
a CDROM. Sigh again. So when I notice
it is small enough again I'll download

I was looking around at other bug reports here and I
learned that "ubiquity" may be run manually.
So this time I booted ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386 but
chose to go into the live session, rather than the
"Install Ubuntu" option. Then I started up an xterm
