Here is /var/log/syslog after unsuccessful startup and subsequent
ifdown/ifup cycle.
eth1 for some reason has ip address 169.254.6.29, and no wireless networks
show up using iwlist scan.
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid ginger.wireless is allowed, but doesn't actually
connect to the network.
sudo iwco
I've now got sound working on my P100-465 using the following guide:

it sounds like it's a general fix for the entire series, so hopefully
it'll work for you too!

As far as I can see from information online about this (sort of well
known) problem, this isn't a problem with Ubuntu but rather with the
bios in the Toshiba having non-standard malarkey in it.
Happy to provide any details if anyone think they're able to sol

While it seemed to work okay for me for a while, after a clean install,
it now seems to work intermittently.
Seemingly at random, when I boot up I sometimes need to ifdown/ifup
cycle my wireless card for it to connect properly.
Using 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP.
All packages are up to date.

Thought I'd add that after the last bath of updates everything works
fine for me now.

Confirmed, exactly the same problem with Toshiba Satellite Pro P100 with
same wireless card (rev 02).

"A new version of Kubuntu is available! Click next if you wish to upgrade now.".
However, the next button is greyed out and I can only choose to quit.
