Public bug reported: This is Hard Heron, Kubuntu, LiveDVD, release version. When booting from a DVD or live DVD, the DVD drive is /dev/sda. When booting normally the hard drive is /dev/sda. As a result, attempting to install, I theorize, attempts to install grub to the DVD...which fails. Check
