To resolve my issue, I created a new user, moved my ~/.kde/ ~/.config/
and ~/.cache/ out of the way, copied over the ~newuser/.kde/ and
~/newuser/.config/, and reconfigured the desktop by hand.
I don't yet know what was the root cause of this issue, and I am willing
to hand over my bad
Update: a better workaround is running from VT2 `pkill -sigint
screenlocker`, which make the password widget visible, and the screen
unlock-able.
I created a new user on the system, that use dosn't exhibit this issue

I was able to reproduce this behavior with running manually
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/kscreenlocker_greet

was able to unlock it and return to my desktop.
Running it again reproduced the reported issue, i.e. no

Although the FreeDB information suppose to be encoded with UTF-8,
virtually all the information about Hebrew music CDs was encoded as
cp1255 (Windows Hebrew Code-Page).
The result, naturally, is a unendurable mess of Gibberish. This makes
the software almost useless for Hebrew music listeners.
I also wish for a simple way to install Amarok 1.4.
Last I looked at it (version 2.0.1 with Alpha-5), the pod-caching
support in Amarok 2 was significantly inferior to that in version 1.4
(No obvious way to organize podcasts in folders, or to drag and drop an
episode to a filesystem's folder.)
