I am having the same problem as Tuomas and zwox. I have a Dell Latitude
E6420. Single touch works when I load the usbhid module with the
following parameters:
quirks=0xeef:0x7356:0x40
I am running Ubuntu 11.10 with the latest updates.

I figured out the problem to be with apparmor:
I added the following to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
network inet stream,
network inet6 stream,
network inet dgram,
network inet6 dgram,
Then executed:
/etc/init.d/apparmor force-reload
/etc/init.d/mysql restart
...an mysql started up fine.
Just tried it with a root password and I get the same error.
