I have upgraded three systems from Xubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. the first was
an Acer Aspire One 753 (64bit, one display) that had no problems.
The other two (also 64bit dual monitor setups) through up this error.

I have had this problem too, and I have been doing some digging.
. It seems to be caused by the size of the thumbnail bar being set to
zero. If you change it to anything else (I have tried 1 and 20 so far)
then Ristretto changes it to 73.
You can change it in the settings editor at Settings -
fubarbundy, for completeness, can you confirm which version of Ubuntu
you found this under, was it 8.10, 9.04, or something else?

Can also confirm this bug. Very annoying.
My adaptor is an Addon GWU190 with an realtek 8187 chip and 8225 radio.
Does seem to be related to signal quality/level (moving the router
closer helped, however same location works fine for windows). This is on
7.10.

Ok, I can confirm Paul Hoell's comment on 7.10. (sudo shows the fault,
kdesu and kdesudo don't).
This doesn't seem to affect the basic operation of kate (I can open and
save files). So perhaps the error message is inaccurate. It would be
better if it was a warning and gave some indication why it

This directory should be owned (at least it is on my system) by the uid
of the user 'user'. 1000 is the number of the first user.
You can use the command 'id' at a terminal whilst logged in as user to
discover the uid.

_K_ubuntu Gutsy (not straight Ubuntu) and gdei-kde. Not sure if that
makes any difference. Perhaps the original poster could clarify whether
there problem was with gdebi or gdebi-kde?
