I had this same problem (HD5770 using OSS drivers). I found that if I disable the Workarounds plugin in CCSM, the lag completely disappeared. I highly recommend this as a possible workaround. I've been testing this latest kernel on my UX31 for the past 3 days with no sudden shutdowns experienced. Will keep this bug updated if I do experience any, but my machine is the most stable it has ever been. Power consumption is very reasonable at around 8 watts with moderate screen brightness. -
