You are correct, this issue is also affecting the latest Trusty 14.04.3 LTS
32bit ISO.
The behavior is separate from Wily:
- Wily - kernel panic occurs at ISO boot prior to the setup phase.
- Trusty - setup process works up to the point where the disk is formatted,
then it freezes.

Hello,
I was able to install a -virtual kernel, however it's not showing up as a boot
option.
This is what I have on a 14.04.1 build after enabling trusty-proposed branch in
sources.list.
The OS is still booting with the -generic kernel and there is no -virtual
kernel in grub after installing
If -virtual sits on top of the -generic kernel, then with kernel
3.13.0-54-generic I do see the hid_hyperv and hyperv_fb drivers loaded on the
system.
Is that kernel version correct for this patch?

None of the 4.x builds are booting with 15.04 32bit.
Tested this with v4.0-vivid, v4.1-rc5-unstable and and rc2, all not able to
find/use sda.
Unfortunately I cannot reach any of the v3.13.xxx-trusty branches in the

Verified this against the latest Vivid Server daily build and the issue
seems resolved, we were able to successfully create a live backup and
restore a default Ubuntu installation with the default partitioning -
/boot being ext2.
Testing details:

The same behavior is observed on 14.04.1 LTS (latest updates), so this
should be fixed there as well.

The mentioned patches from bug #1317697 were in regards to having VMBus v3.0
negociated, which is a requirement for kernel crash feature to work on a
WS2012R2 Hyper-V host.
That patch was already included in the original utopic builds that we've tested.

Ubuntu Server 14.10 Daily build from 19th Aug.
During the testing we've discovered that the hyperv_fb module is not
automatically loaded by the system.
Hi Joseph,
The build from 19th Aug is the first one we've picked up for testing, so I
cannot confirm if the initial builds have this or not, though this issue was
not seen before on Ubuntu.
